Canada continues to hold out a generous hand to the people of Haiti whose lives were crushed along with their homes when the earthquake hit.

As of yesterday afternoon, the Canadian Red Cross had received $32.9-million from individual donors across Canada and another $8.1-million from corporations.

The Salvation Army had received $2-million, UNICEF Canada had received $5.6-million, and the Humanitarian Coalition - which encompasses Oxfam Canada, Save the Children Canada, and CARE Canada - had raised $3.5-million.

Meanwhile, the federal government offered more aid yesterday in addition to a promise to match individual donations up to a cap of $50-million.

International Co-operation Minister Bev Oda said $60-million will be contributed to the United Nations to help UN organizations deliver essential services to approximately three million people over the next six months.
