Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev plans to visit other islands disputed with Japan and plans more investments in the archipelago, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday.

"The president said he will visit the other islands," Mr. Lavrov said during a visit to Oslo, referring to a conversation he said he had with Mr. Medvedev earlier on Tuesday. He also said that Mr. Medvedev planned to step up investments in the islands.

Earlier, Japan said it was recalling its ambassador to Moscow temporarily after Mr. Medvedev made a brief visit on Monday to one of four island outposts seized by Russia from Japan at the end of World War Two. Mr. Lavrov said Russia was not planning to recall its ambassador to Tokyo.
