Some days it just doesn't pay to try and do the right thing.

A 74-year-old Hamilton woman is now in a U.S. jail on a drug warrant issued nearly 30 years ago in New York.

Homenella Cole arrived at the Lewiston-Queenston border crossing into New York state yesterday to get her paper work in order.

She had a conviction in Canada and needed a special waiver to allow her to enter the U.S. as a visitor.

While U.S. officials were processing her request they discovered she had an outstanding warrant from April 1st, 1980.

The New York City Police Department had charged Ms. Cole three decades years ago with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.

So Ms. Cole was arrested on the spot and is in the custody of the New York State Police.

They are now trying to extradite her to New York City to face the long-outstanding charge.
