A verdict is expected in Allan Schoenborn's trial for murder in the death of his three young children. Mr. Schoenborn testified that he killed his three children in April, 2008. But B.C. Supreme Court Justice Robert Powers will decide if he is guilty of first-degree murder, or if he cannot be held criminally responsible for his actions due to a delusional disorder or schizophrenia.

TUESDAY

The United Nations peacekeeping mission to East Timor, which includes police officers from Canada, is on the agenda for the meeting of the UN Security Council. The mandate for the mission expires Feb., 26, and renewal is expected, with a smaller operation and a more focused role.

WEDNESDAY

Peter Fonteece, of Waterloo, Ont., whose wife, Yanisa, committed suicide in a Thunder Bay motel, will be sentenced after pleading guilty in December to criminal negligence causing death. After Ms. Fonteece lost her job, they were to move to B.C., but their car broke down in Thunder Bay a year ago. The court heard that a despondent Ms. Fonteece told her husband not to intervene until after she was dead.

THURSDAY

The Ontario Liberal Party will hold its flagship fundraising dinner at the Metro Convention Centre in Toronto, where attendees will pay $950 apiece to dine on local fare and listen to Premier Dalton McGuinty talk about tightening belts. He will give his audience a taste of what to expect in next month's budget - a sobering topic for a province facing a record deficit of $24.7-billion.
