In a note to residents of Massey College, a graduate student residential community affiliated with, but independent from, the University of Toronto, the school's Master John Fraser has indicated that the facility will remain open during the G20 summit.
TO ALL RESIDENTS OF MASSEY COLLEGE
The University of Toronto has announced that it will be closing the St. George Campus during the heads of government meeting of the G20 Group being held in Toronto during the week beginning Monday, June 21 and concluding the following Sunday, June 27. All lectures, seminars, scheduled events and social gatherings will be either cancelled, rearranged or relocated.
As usual with G20 summits, vigorous demonstrations are expected and the focus of these demonstrations will be at Queen's Park. Consequently, there will be considerable security in the immediate area, although no streets are being closed and I have been assured that access to Massey should not be affected.
Although all the undergraduate residences on the campus will be closed, I have discussed the situation with the relevant officials and see no reason to close Massey. Consequently, the college will remain open during this period and meal service will continue as well.
When I return to the office next Monday, I will review our own security arrangements and we will provide regular reports and advisories as needed.
John Fraser, Master
