Re At 95, Trailblazer Wants The Power To End Her Life (March 8): As a society, we need to offer humane choices for people who are ill or suffering and want the dignity of self-chosen death. I salute Bernice Levitz Packford's courage in taking her quest public.
She is not alone. A 2004 poll found that 83 per cent of Canadians said yes to the statement, "Should Canada legalize merciful euthanasia if the patient wants to die and the process takes place under a doctor's supervision?" It is time for Parliament to allow Bill C-384 to go through to the committee stage, so that we can really have a conversation about it.
