Jeffrey Simpson is correct to lament the fact that successive federal governments did not prevent Canadian mining companies from falling into foreign hands (We've Sold Off Assets So Often, Branch Plants 'R' Us -March 9). However, there's lots of blame to go around.
Equal credit should go to the inept managements and sleepy boards of directors who could have, and should have, taken timely action to prevent those takeovers.
