Canadian women now make up almost half the work force (Nightmare Gender Gap - March 4). Yet, women still earn less than men in many professions and more women live in or at poverty levels. Women continue to be underrepresented at the highest levels of management and in public decision-making positions.

To wake up from the "nightmare gender gap" is to recognize that, while Canada has made significant strides toward women's equality, we are a long way from achieving a society where the contributions of men and women workers are treated with the same respect and value.

And why shouldn't we dream of a Canada that is No. 1 in the world on gender equality?
