Tell me there are others disturbed by the "critique" of the new PlayStation 3 video game, Heavy Rain (That's When It Hits Me: I Might Die Here - Review, Feb. 23). Based on the tale of a serial killer who drowns children in periods of heavy rain, there are 50 scenarios with "jaw-dropping graphics" in which players can assume the role of four separate characters, all of whom take an "interest" in the killer.
It is not explained whether that interest is morbid or noble. Either way, the serial killer (who can appear by way of home invasion) holds captive, restrains, attempts to drug, torture and kill these inquisitive folks. It is up to his victim to outsmart him.
The bottom line of the review?
The game is a "wildly immersive story ... clever, engaging ... unique" and "gorgeous." Not one question about the ethics. And no letters of outrage to the editor. We're doomed.
