Re Study Warns About Seniors' Prescriptions (March 19): Perhaps part of the problem is that we simply can't imagine people aging without a lot of pharmaceutical intervention. A few years ago, my mother, then in her late 70s (she's now 85), was having a simple procedure done at a Halifax hospital. Her medical history was being taken by a resident, and when asked about prescription drugs, she replied: "Young man, I don't take any medications."

The next question she was asked was: "Can you tell me the prime minister's name?"
