Lysiane Gagnon suggests that allowing the wearing of burkas poses a security risk - because a few weeks ago in France, two men robbed a bank wearing burkas, which concealed their weapons. Does Ms. Gagnon honestly think that anyone set on robbing a bank would be deterred by not being able to hide his or her gun underneath a burka? A bulky sweater would do the job just fine.

Bank robberies and other crimes have taken place in North America and Europe for hundreds of years, and it's safe to say that the burka has had absolutely nothing to do with their frequency.

Let's worry a little more about protecting Canada's visible minorities from the effects of racism, and a little less about burka-clad bank robbers.
