But I must admit I am learning a lot being the "Royal Demystifier" or whatever they call me.
For example, I always thought that ICBC split the fault in most crashes. That way they could charge us more. Turns out that's not true.
In 95% of crashes, liability isn't split. What I've learned is that the most common crashes - like a rear-ender, turning left against oncoming traffic, ignoring right-of-way at an intersection, pulling out when it's not safe - have something in common: one driver is responsible.
But every case is unique. No matter how the crash happened, ICBC looks at all the information before they make a decision about liability. And if you'd like to know more about the decision, just ask. They want to make sure that you feel you are being treated fairly and that you understand the decision.
