We are excited to launch an all-new destination for Games at the Globe and Mail, with new puzzles geared to a Canadian audience, as well as a new look for accessing your old favourites.

Where is the Daily Concise crossword?

We are discontinuing the Concise based on overwhelming feedback from our solvers about the amount of British slang and terminology in the puzzle. It is no longer available in our app, and it will be discontinued from our print edition as of Feb. 23.

We are replacing it with the Daily Crossword, which features the Universal Crossword from Sunday to Friday, and “The Weekender” on Saturdays, a brand-new 21x21 crossword made exclusively in Canada for The Globe and Mail, containing Canadian references and spelling.

Where is the Universal Crossword?

You can now find the Universal Crossword every Sunday to Friday under the "Daily Crossword" card, with an upgraded player interface. The Universal will also run daily in our print edition starting on Feb. 23.

Why has the crossword changed?

We have changed our crossword approach based on overwhelming feedback from our solvers that they wanted less focus on British terminology. We are very excited to instead offer the Universal Crossword from Sunday to Friday, and our very own "The Weekender" on Saturdays – both appearing in the Daily Crossword slot on our homepage and in our app (and in print starting Feb. 23).

We believe these crosswords will resonate with our daily solvers. They are made by constructors from across North America and feature more familiar content and vocabulary; "The Weekender" is made in Canada exclusively for The Globe and Mail. The puzzles are generally "themed," meaning they feature a clever wordplay gimmick that typically appears across several of the longest Across entries (but it could be elsewhere!). They also feature fully interlocked grids, meaning that every single letter is part of both an Across and a Down entry, giving solvers two possible ways to find each one.

Where is Wordrow?

In order to make room for our new games, we needed to retire Wordrow from our lineup.

How do I play Headliner?

Headliner is a "drop quote" puzzle. Drop the letters into the cells below each column to unscramble a recent Globe and Mail headline. Black squares represent spaces, and words can wrap from one line to the next. Try looking for short words like "a," "I" and "the," and familiar letter combinations like "ing" or "er." From there you can start to piece the rest together.

Can I save my progress and come back to it later?

Yes. To ensure your game progress is saved exactly where you left off, please log in or create an account.

I’ve signed up and logged in, but I still don’t see my progress. Why not?

If you’re playing a game from the archives, progress cannot be saved across different devices. We’re working on improving this experience, so please stay tuned.

I have feedback I’d like to share. How can I do that?

Thank you for caring so much about our puzzle experience! You can email our Games Editor.
