With buyers scrambling to find a home before interest rates increase and the harmonized sales tax is implemented, there is a frenzy of activity over available properties, agent Linda Ing-Gilbert says.
This detached, two-storey house is a prime example, as it received a trio of offers within days of listing, including one nearly $69,000 over the asking price.
"It was a really special property, and it was in a great location," says Ms. Ing-Gilbert, who notes the proximity of a park, schools and the subway. "It's a great family-friendly neighbourhood."
The over 60-year-old house was highly valued for its recent makeover, from the addition of high-end details to the removal of the wall between the principal rooms.
"It was really modern and you don't really see that very often," the agent says. "It had a really great loft feel to it."
There are nine-foot ceilings in the main floor, where there is a powder room and an open living and dining area with halogen lights and Jatoba hand-stained hardwood floors.
Those features also appear in the eat-in kitchen, which was finished with a stone countertop and extended breakfast bar, sleek cabinetry and stainless steel appliances, including a gas stove. A back door exits to the yard and two parking spots in the rear lane.
A skylight illuminates the upper hall to the three bedrooms and a five-piece bathroom with Carrera marble finishes.
In the basement, there are recreation and laundry rooms with concrete floors.
Other improvements include newer roofing, a mid-efficiency furnace and updated wiring, plumbing and air conditioning systems. "All the hard stuff was done," Ms. Ing-Gilbert says.
