The action
A family from Newmarket, Ont., armed with a monetary gift from a grandparent, spent three weeks in October looking at about two dozen turnkey properties in Barrie, roughly 100 kilometres north of downtown Toronto. Unable to strike a deal on their first choice, they redirected their attention to this three-bedroom house with an in-law suite in the basement. They negotiated a $12,500 discount to the most recent asking price.
“They wanted to get a bigger house for that price point, so they left Newmarket to go to Barrie,” said the buyers’ agent Suzanne Stephens.
“It was an excellent time to be out shopping. We found lots of houses that met their criteria in their budget.”

“It’s a short drive to the beach, which was something they were hoping for.
“They loved the area and the great school district. It just ticked all the boxes.”
