The action
Near Bluffer’s Park and Beach, a builder constructed two houses side-by-side and kept this four-bedroom model for himself for a brief period. Its farmhouse-style, crafted with intricate millwork and exposed posts and beams, attracted less than 10 potential buyers, but its basement suite was a major perk for a multigenerational family. Their offer was $179,000 shy of the list price, but other factors, including a possession date in July, pleased the sellers.
“It’s a very unique house, so we weren’t sure how the reaction would be,” said agent Ken Ramsay. “My clients decided they liked the profile of the buyers – they had kids, and my clients raised a few kids in the house – and the closing date and terms worked for them, so it made sense to sell it to this family.”

'The builder was an extremely skilled carpenter, so every door was unique, and the flooring changed as you went through the house,' said the co-listing agent.Supplied
What they got
This 25-year-old house was devised with more than 2,100 square feet of living space, including separate living and dining areas.
The family room features a gas fireplace and double doors to a new wraparound deck. Smaller decks lie off two bedrooms upstairs.
The basement suite provides entertaining and cooking facilities, two guest rooms and one of four bathrooms.
A shed, carport and private driveway round out the 35- by 130-foot lot.

The agent’s take
“The builder was an extremely skilled carpenter, so every door was unique, and the flooring changed as you went through the house,” said co-listing agent Jaime Ramsay.
“There were different sculptures worked into the plaster on the wall, so it almost felt like The Da Vinci Code, every time we went into the property, I’d notice a new one.”
The property’s locale was also cherished. “It’s one of the more popular streets in that neighbourhood, and not too far away from the lake,” said Mr. Ramsay.
