Charles Schwab Corp. (SCHW - NYSE)

Charles Schwab Corp. is a leader in the discount brokerage and the fast-growing registered investment adviser businesses, said UBS Securities analyst Alex Kramm. It should also benefit from rising interest rates.

Upside: The shares are rated "buy" with a price target of $24 (U.S.). The share profit is forecast at 61 cents in 2010, $1.10 in 2011, and $1.65 in 2012.

Norbord Inc. (NBD - TSX)

Yesterday's close $16.44, up 15¢

Norbord Inc., a manufacturer of oriented strand board, will benefit from the gradual recovery in the U.S. housing market and price discipline in the industry, said Paul Quinn, an analyst with RBC Dominion Securities.

Upside: The shares are reiterated "outperform" and the price target was raised by $2, to $26. The share profit is forecast at 42 cents (U.S.) in 2010 and $2.31 in 2011.

Volterra Semiconductor Corp. (VLTR - NASDAQ)

Yesterday's close $27.76 U.S., up 34¢

Volterra Semiconductor Corp. manufactures power-management semiconductors used in servers and notebooks. Sales should improve with an increase in corporate spending and as a result of the introduction of new microprocessors, said Brigantine Advisors analyst Ramesh Misra.

Upside: The shares are reiterated "buy" and the price target was raised to $32 (U.S.) from $25. The share profit is forecast at $1.37 in fiscal 2010 and $1.75 in 2011.

Allied Nevada Gold Corp. (ANV- AMEX)

Yesterday's close $16.97 U.S., up 5¢

Allied Nevada Gold Corp. is planning a $212-million (U.S.) project to increase production at its Hycroft mine in Nevada to 260,000 ounces of gold and one million ounces of silver, said Desjardins Securities analyst Brian Christie. A scoping study to mine sulphide ore estimates the capital cost at $260-million to increase annual production by 275,000 ounces of gold and 6.25 million ounces of silver.

Upside: The share price target is $20.75.

Jazz Air Income Fund (JAZ.UN - TSX)

Yesterday's close $4.64, up 4¢

Jazz Air Income Fund has agreed to lease at least six Boeing 757-200 aircraft during the winter season and possibly as many as 11 planes from Thomas Cook Canada (operators of Sunquest), said Beacon Securities analyst Michael Mills. This is a first step in a diversification strategy, he said.

Upside: The units, which yield 13 per cent, are reiterated "buy" and the price target was raised to $5 from $4.50.
