Teck Resources Ltd. "is our preferred diversified commodities play in the metals group" given the continued strong demand from China for copper and zinc, said John Hughes, an analyst with Desjardins Securities.

Upside: The shares are reiterated "buy" with a price target of $41.75. The share profit is forecast at $3.17 in 2010.

ZCL Composites

ZCL Composites Inc., which manufactures liquid-storage systems for the petroleum, water and waste-water industries, has acquired Dualam Plastics for $20.5-million plus up to $6-million in earn-out provisions.

Upside: The shares are reiterated "buy" with forecast 2010 earnings of 34 cents a share. The price target was raised to $6.25 from $5.90 by Versant Partners analyst Neil Linsdell. Dualam offers exposure to the power and chemical industries, he said.

Stantec Inc.

(STN-TSX)

Daily close $30.20, up 93¢

Stantec Inc. is likely to generate growth by making an acquisition in the northeastern United States within the next few quarters, said Sara O'Brien, an analyst with RBC Dominion Securities. Stantec designs and manages North American infrastructure projects.

Upside: The shares are reiterated "outperform" and the price target was raised to $35 from $33. Stantec has been added to the "best ideas" list.

Atheros Communications

(ATHR-NASDAQ)

Daily close $36.29 U.S., up 43¢

Atheros Communications Inc., which develops networking technologies for wireless local-area networks, is levered to growth in notebooks, smart phones, personal computers and handsets, said Allan Mishan, managing director of semiconductor equity research for Brigantine Advisors.

Upside: Atheros is rated "buy" with a share price target of $40 (U.S.). It is "right in the sweet spot" of Internet communications, he said. The share profit is forecast at $1.70 in 2010.

Sierra Wireless

(SW-TSX)

Daily close $12.71, up 47¢

Sierra Wireless Inc. is well-positioned to capture growth from the deployment of machine-to-machine communication systems in the North American and European utilities industry to carry out smart metering and energy management, said Gus Papageorgiou, an analyst with Scotia Capital.

Upside: The shares are reiterated "sector perform" with a two-year price target of $16.75. It maintains about 36 per cent of its share price in cash.
