Torys deal teams have been part of two headline-making transactions in recent weeks. Torys has been retained by Woodbridge Co. Ltd., the holding company of the Thomson family, and CTVglobemedia in the recently announced deal that will see Woodbridge take direct ownership of The Globe and Mail, with BCE Inc. taking a 15-per-cent share in the paper and total control of CTV Inc.

That Torys is involved is no surprise, given the firm's long-time relationship with the Thomson family, for whom John A. Tory, son of the firm's founder, has long been a key adviser.

Torys lawyers on the deal include Michael Siltala, Cornell Wright, Jackie Taitz, Erin Chayko, Adrienne DiPaolo, Janelle Bowman, Zack Newton, Anthony Tam, Jim Welkoff, Kathy Moore, Jay Holsten, Sue-Anne Fox, Tom Zverina and Christina Medland.

Torys was also involved in the deal that will see Waterbury, Vt.-based Green Mountain Coffee Roasters acquire Montreal-based coffee maker Van Houtte (LJVH Holdings Inc.) for $915-million.

The Torys team, retained to ensure the deal clears regulatory hurdles, includes Jay Holsten, Omar Wakil and Sue-Anne Fox.

On the move

David Hunter has joined Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP as counsel with the firm's aboriginal, environmental and mining practice groups. Mr. Hunter was previously with Bennett Jones LLP.
