Canaccord Genuity is adding to the top ranks of its Canadian capital markets business.
It has hired Chris Blackwell to be its head of investment banking in Canada and is promoting Jason Melbourne to be its head of institutional equity sales and trading/securities in Canada, the bank said in a staff memo on Wednesday.
Mr. Blackwell will have oversight over all non-resource investment banking activities and will work closely with Ted Hirst, the head of global resources. He will be based in Toronto.
Most recently, Mr. Blackwell was a partner at Access Holdings, a U.S. midmarket private equity firm. Before that, he spent three years at Scotiabank as the co-head of diversified industries, as well as 14 years with CIBC World Markets, where he led investment banking for diversified industries in Canada, Hong Kong and New York.
On the other hand, Mr. Melbourne will have oversight over all institutional sales and trading products and services in Canada.
He began his career in banking in 1997 and started in institutional sales in 2000. He joined the firm in 2010 as part of the merger with Genuity Capital Markets and in 2016, he became the head of Canadian equity sales.
These are the latest changes made in leadership at Canaccord since Pat Burke, a former Scotia Capital executive, became the president of its Canadian capital markets arm in 2015. In Wednesday's staff memo, Mr. Burke said the group's priorities are to enhance its client focus, bolster its cross-border efforts and grow its advisory practice.
