Desjardins Securities has hired John Shingler to run its electronic trading desk.
Mr. Shingler was most recently running that business for Genuity Capital Markets, which he joined last year as part of Genuity's decision to expand into that hot area. However, Genuity merged with Canaccord recently and Canaccord had an established team under John Christofilos.
Many investors are increasingly turning to brokers for electronic services such as trading algorithms and direct pipes into markets to increase speed. At Genuity, Mr. Shingler was in charge of both lines of business.
Before that, he worked at Scotia Capital.
