HSBC Securities has named a veteran of the European debt markets to head the group that runs debt sales in Canada.

Andrew Porter comes to the role of head of debt capital markets for Canada from London, where he was global head of covered bond origination. Prior to that, he spent four years as head of European debt syndication, HSBC said.

With a growing market for Maple bonds sold by foreign companies looking to tap Canada's market, that trans-Atlantic pedigree should help. Going the other way, HSBC will be looking to take Canadian clients to foreign markets to issue bonds.
