RBC Capital Markets is making several key hires in its European business, expanding the bank's research coverage in the region to 15 sectors, and adding two new teams.
The bank appointed Jonathan Dann as a managing director and head of European equity telecom research. Mr. Dann has experience in the sector, having led European and emerging markets telecom research at Barclays for five years, and having worked at other banks before that. He will be based in London.
Other new hires joined from Barclays alongside Mr. Dann, including a three-person telecom equity research team made up of directors San Dhillon, Mike Bishop and Gonzalo Fernandez Dionis. RBC also brought on Sonalee Parekh, a telecom specialist in the equity sales business, as a director. RBC also added two professionals to its consumer-focused team. Richard Chamberlain will be managing director of consumer retail research, and Mark Wallis joins as director of consumer specialist sales. Both join the bank from Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
RBC has put an increasing focus on building out its European research business.
"The continued development of our pan-European equities platform reflects our ongoing commitment to selectively adding depth to our sector coverage in line with client demand," said Graeme Pearson, head of European and Asia-Pacific (APAC) research, in a statement.
It has been almost exactly one year since Mr. Pearson was hired to head European equity research in a move to capitalize on economic recovery in the U.K. Like Mr. Dann, he has experience in telecom, having once led the European research team in this sector for Lehman Brothers.
