Scotia Capital has made its first analyst hire in the U.S. market.
The bank told employees on Wednesday that it has taken on Joanne Smith as a senior equity research analyst in its New York office, effective Sept. 1.
Ms. Smith, who has 22 years of experience covering the insurance industry, will be covering the industry across North America. That includes coverage of Canada's big four life insurance firms and their global peers.
Ms. Smith recently spent six years working on the buy side at Deutsche Asset Management, and her career includes 16 years in equity research at UBS, Fox-Pitt Kelton and CSFB. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Pace University.
This is expected to be the first of many U.S. hires for Scotia's research team.
