Canadian National Railway reports first-quarter results. Analysts expect share profit of 79 cents, up from 64 cents a year ago.

Tuesday, April 27

The U.S. Conference Board releases its consumer confidence report for April. Economists expect a current confidence reading of 54, up from 52.5 in March.

3M Co. reports first-quarter results. Analysts expect share profit of $1.21 (U.S.), up from 81 cents a year ago.

United States Steel reports first-quarter results. The company's per-share loss is expected to narrow to $1.45 (U.S.) from a loss of $3.84 a year ago.

Other companies reporting include: BP, CIT Group, Daimler, Deutsche Bank, DuPont, Inmet Mining, LG Electronics, Newmont Mining, Norfolk Southern, Office Depot, Stanley Black & Decker, United Parcel Service and Western Union.

Wednesday, April 28

The U.S. Federal Reserve's federal open market committee releases its interest rate decision at 2:15 p.m. ET. The key rate is expected to remain at a record low near zero.

Canadian Pacific Railway reports first-quarter results. Analysts expect per share profit of 51 cents, up from 34 cents a year ago.

Barrick Gold Corp. reports first-quarter results. Analysts expect per share profit of 61 cents (U.S.), up from 34 cents a year ago.

The U.S. Department of Labour releases data on initial jobless claims for the week ended April 24.

ExxonMobil reports first-quarter results. Analysts expect per share profit of $1.41 (U.S.), up from 92 cents a year ago.

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan reports first-quarter results. Analysts expect per share profit of $1.13 (U.S.), up from $1.02 a year ago.

Statistics Canada releases GDP data for February.

The U.S. Department of Commerce releases advance GDP data for the first quarter.

The closely watched Chicago Purchasing Managers Index for April is released.

TransCanada Corp. reports first-quarter results. Analysts expect per share profit of 50 cents, down from 55 cents a year ago.

Domtar reports first-quarter results. Analysts expect per share profit of 94 cents (U.S.), compared with a loss of 84 cents a year ago.

Other companies reporting include: Chevron, D.R. Horton, Fuji, Heritage Oil, Simon Property Group, Nasdaq OMX Group and Total.
