Performance

Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. has proven to be a reliable performer over the years, but its hostile takeover offer for U.S. Midwest regional convenience-store operator Casey's General Stores Inc. may prove to be problematic. No one wants to see the Couche-Tard management team - well regarded for running a tight ship - distracted by a protracted battle or bidding war for Casey's.

Couche-Tard has built an enviable reputation in the U.S. for outperforming most of its rivals. Maintaining that edge - without potentially brutal takeover battles - will be crucial over the coming months if the stock is to continue to outperform.
