The Toronto Blue Jays will turn to Max Scherzer in Game 3 against the Dodgers when the World Series shifts to Los Angeles on Monday.

It’s a change in the rotation from the American League Championship Series, when Shane Bieber pitched Game 3 against the Seattle Mariners, and then Scherzer pitched Game 4.

Bieber will start Game 4 in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Jays manager John Schneider said he switched the order for the two pitchers since he didn’t want to hold off Scherzer for too long. He last pitched Game 4 in Seattle on Oct. 16, an 8-2 win for Toronto. Bieber, on the other hand, started Game 7 of the ALCS on Monday.

“I think Max can navigate that pretty well,” said Schneider of the upcoming start at Dodger Stadium on Monday. “It gives Shane an extra day.”

That was the first start of these playoffs so for Scherzer, the 41-year-old three-time Cy Young Award winner, as he had been left off Toronto’s ALDS roster.

The way the Jays pitchers line up now in the World Series, Scherzer would be the likely starter if a Game 7 is necessary.

Kevin Gausman takes the mound today in Game 2, versus Dodgers’ right-hander Yoshinobu Yamanoto.
