The weather has put a damper on the Toronto Blue Jays hopes to clinch the American League East title here on Tuesday night.
Gray skies hovered over Baltimore for most of the afternoon and a steady rain began to fall a couple of hours before the scheduled first pitch of the game between the Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles.
At about 6:30 p.m. (EST), the inevitable was made official with the announcement that the American League contest has been postponed due to the weather.
Instead, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Wednesday, with the first game slated to start at 4:05 p.m. (EST).
The development puts a hold on any divisional celebration the Blue Jays might have had planned.
Heading into Tuesday's game, the Blue Jays magic number to clinch first place in the East was down to two games.
Any combination of Toronto wins and losses by the New York Yankees adding up to two would clinch the title for the Blue Jays.
Now the Blue Jays will have to wait another day.
