Turning point Alex Gonzalez swatted his third home run of the Oakland A's series into the left-field seats in the first inning, which gave the Toronto Blue Jays a 4-0 lead. That matches his home run total in 112 games last season playing for the Cincinnati Reds and the Boston Red Sox.
Offensive player Newcomer Fred Lewis had a sacrifice fly in the second inning and drove in two more in the fourth on a home run to right field, his first since joining the Blue Jays last month. Honourable mention should go to catcher John Buck, whose three doubles yesterday are a career high.
Starters It was a long time coming but Shaun Marcum (1-1) notched his first win at Rogers Centre since returning to the Jays' lineup after elbow surgery. Marcum was solid, lasting 6.1 innings while allowing only one run off six hits. He struck out six. For Marcum, who missed all of last season with the injury, it was not only his first win of 2010 but his first win at home since Sept. 11, 2008 against the White Sox. Oakland starter Ben Sheets (1-3) was rattled for 10 hits - seven of them for extra bases - and nine runs.
