NOTES Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Vernon Wells collected just his second triple of the season Wednesday night, driving in Fred Lewis for the opening score against the New York Yankees. Bizarrely enough for the right-handed-hitting Wells, a notorious pull hitter, he tripled to right field. ... Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher was scratched from the lineup minutes before the first pitch, still feeling the ill effects of being hit on the knee in his team's win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Brett Gardner took his place in the outfield. … Despite being demoted to the bullpen Tuesday, Yankees right-hander Javier Vazquez kept his strikeout streak alive in relief, ringing up Adam Lind in the sixth inning to make it 346 consecutive games with at least one strikeout, the longest such run among active players. … Former Major League Baseball Players Association chief Donald Fehr, in town for the World Hockey Summit, took in the game Wednesday in the company of Blue Jays president Paul Beeston.
