NOTES
There was a frightening moment for Toronto starter Ricky Romero in the third inning when a line drive from Casper Wells appeared to strike the pitcher in the hip, sending him off the mound, spinning like a top. The ball deflected toward Aaron Hill and the Blue Jays second baseman still had enough time to get the out at first. Romero flashed a grin after the play, a signal he was all right. … Romero was doing some more spinning in the Detroit fourth watching the ball fly out of the park as home runs by Jhonny Peralta and Gerald Laird keyed a six-run Detroit outburst. … As Toronto manager Cito Gaston is wont to say, this loss was an all-round team effort. Both Edwin Encarnacion and Fred Lewis were thrown out on the base paths in the third inning. And an Encarnacion throwing error in the fourth meant that only three of Detroit's six runs were earned.
