NOTES

Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston had a welcome visitor in his final day of work at Yankees Stadium. Pinstripe legend Reggie Jackson dropped into his office for an hour-long chat. The two played together in the Instructional League in 1967 and have always remained in touch. … Alex Rodriguez returned to the Yankees' lineup after being on the 15-day disabled list with a calf strain and proved his health by beating out an infield single in the sixth, one of his two hits on the day. ... The Jays announced the call-ups of three players from Triple-A Las Vegas before the game: pitchers Rommie Lewis and Josh Roenicke and infielder Jarrett Hoffpauir. Former Jays closer Jeremy Accardo, who criticized Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopolous in published reports last week for leaving him in the minors all season, was not called up despite leading Las Vegas in saves. Roenicke pitched the eighth inning and struck out one batter without allowing a base runner. … Aaron Hill said he hurt his right knee lunging for the bag, beating a hit in the top of the ninth and was replaced at second base by Mike McKoy in the bottom half of the inning. … Pitcher Shawn Camp was not with the team for personal reasons. … Starter Brett Cecil improved to 8-2 against the AL East with his win but said he might back off in his work between starts as he was having a hard time with his velocity.
