Toronto Blue Jays centre fielder Vernon Wells had to leave Sunday's 1-0 win against the Tampa Bay Rays after dislocating his right big toe during the sixth inning.

Wells injured himself making a spectacular running catch at the wall in centrefield on a long fly ball off the bat of Tampa's Ben Zobrist.

Wells crashed into the wall after making the grab that preserved a no-hitter by Toronto pitcher Brandon Morrow. The Blue Jays were leading 1-0 at the time, before the bid collapsed in the ninth inning.

Travis Snider pinch-hit for Wells in Toronto's next at-bat.
