Masai Ujiri is moving on to another job in the NBA.

The former Toronto Raptors president has joined the Dallas Mavericks as president and alternate governor, his new team announced on Monday.

The veteran basketball executive and architect of Toronto’s 2019 NBA championship team, did not work in the league this season after he and the Raptors parted ways after their 2025 campaign.

The Mavericks are set to introduce the 55-year-old on Tuesday at a press conference in Dallas alongside Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont.

Ujiri will oversee the Mavericks’ basketball operations, including roster construction, player personnel and scouting.

“This is a franchise with a proud history, passionate fans, and a commitment to winning. I look forward to working with our players, coaches, and leadership team to build something that reflects that standard and competes at the highest level. We will win in Dallas,” Ujiri said in a press release.

Ujiri began his career as an international scout with the Orlando Magic and Denver Nuggets before rising to lead the Nuggets basketball operations, where he was named NBA Executive of the Year in 2012-13.

“Masai Ujiri is one of the great basketball leaders of this generation and his addition to our franchise is a critical step in meeting our goals,” said Dumont. “We welcome his energy and determination along with his leadership, experience and many accomplishments as a basketball executive. We are very excited about the future of our team.”

Ujiri also recently joined the ownership group of Canada’s first WNBA team, the expansion Toronto Tempo, as a principal owner. That franchise will tip off on May 8.
