Canadians Mike Weir and Stephen Ames will face each other in the second round of the Accenture Match Play Championship tomorrow if they get through the opening round today. That's a big if.
Weir, seeded 38th among the 64 competitors, hasn't escaped the first round in his past three Match Play starts and faces red-hot Alvaro Quiros, a long-bombing Spaniard whose worst finish in his past three outings on the European Tour was a tie for 11th.
Ames, seeded 59th, faces an even tougher challenge - 2009 Match Play runner-up and sixth seed Paul Casey of England. The Calgary resident's best performance came in 2007, when he reached the final eight.
If Weir and Ames manage to get through today, they'll square off for the first time in the 12-year-old event.
