Jason Myers kicked a Super Bowl-record five field goals, game MVP Kenneth Walker rushed for 135 yards on 27 carries and the Seattle Seahawks’ defence throttled the New England Patriots on Sunday night in Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Seattle won 29-13 to capture its second Vince Lombardi Trophy in four tries and completed the season with a 17-3 record. The Patriots, who were playing in the National Football League championship game for the first time since 2018 and 12th time in franchise history, ended 2025-26 at 17-4.
The Seahawks put an early stranglehold on Drake Maye, New England’s superb second-year starter. He was limited to 48 yards passing in the first half and was sacked three times.
The Patriots punted five times in the first half and were out-gained 186-28.
Maye finished 27 of 43 for 295 yards and two touchdowns. but most came once outcome was decided.
He entered the game as the second-youngest quarterback (23) to ever start a Super Bowl. The youngest was Dan Marino, who took the Dolphins to the big game in his second season.
Myers was was perfect on three field-goal attempts and staked the Seahawks to a 9-0 lead at the half.
“We have to do a much better job in the second half,” Mike Vrabel, New England’s first-year coach said after 30 minutes.
Your normal A+ celebrity list took in the game on a beautiful sunny afternoon with the temperature at kickoff 17 C. The Biebers were there – Hayley and Justin – as was Roger Federer and Adam Sandler.
Green Day performed during pregame. A missed opportunity followed when game hosts declined to bring out Punxsutawney Phil and have him pounded with frozen iguanas by frustrated Floridians.
The halftime show may have drawn more interest than the game itself. It featured musician Bad Bunny, an American born in Puerto Rico. U.S. President Donald Trump decried the choice as divisive and complained that Bad Bunny, who has won six Grammy Awards and is among the world’s most streamed artists, wasn’t popular enough.
With the United States President’s support, Turning Point USA presented a competing halftime presentation headlined by Kid Rock.
The Seahawks entered as 4.5-point betting favourites, a high spread for a matchup between 14-3 (regular season) teams. But Seattle won easily, thanks mostly to its defence.
It sacked Maye six times, intercepted him twice and forced him into two fumbles. The last was run back 44 yards for a touchdown by linebacker Uchenna Nwosu to put the game away with 4:27 remaining.
Plenty of wagers beyond the one around the contest’s outcome were available. That allowed fans to increase their losses in real time.
Pre-game coin toss? Check. (In the previous 59 Super Bowls, “tails” had landed 31 times.)
Colour of Gatorade poured on the winning head coach? Check. (This seems like a fun way for all of us to end a great day at the office, and a wonderful opportunity to play hide and seek with our managers.)

The face price for the cheapest seats was US$950 but they disappeared as quickly as the Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup playoffs. According to Ticketmaster, the average historical price for tickets sold on the secondary market are between US$4,000 and US$6,000.
The National Chicken Council – not made up – predicted that 1.5 billion wings would be consumed during the game on in the U.S. on Sunday and estimated that that many wings could circle the Earth nearly three times.
The Seahawks received the opening kickoff and marched 51 yards on eight plays before Myers booted a 33-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead only four minutes into the contest. The big plays on the drive were a 23-yard pass completion between Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp and a 10-yard run by Kenneth Walker.
With a few exceptions the defences dominated play over the first 15 minutes. Seattle was forced to punt twice and New England quarterback Drake Maye was sacked two times as well.
The quarter ended 3-0 but the Seahawks put a fast drive together early in the second. Myers increased their lead to 6-0 on a 39-yard field goal that closed out an eight-play drive that ground out a little less than three minutes off the clock.
Walker had the two biggest plays, back-to-back rushes of 29 and 21 yards.

Myers’s third field goal came from 41 yards out before the halftime intermission. A nine-point deficit looked like 90 at that point to the Patriots.
They got the ball to open the third quarter but made nothing of the opportunity. They went three-and-out again and held onto the ball for only 58 seconds. So much for the start of a comeback. At one point they went three-and-out on five of six possessions.
Myers added another field goal from 41 yards out with 9:12 left in the third. Then things got worse for New England in the fourth when Maye fumbled on a sack to turn the ball over.
Seattle cashed that into a touchdown when Darnold found A.J. Barner in the end zone from 16 yards out, still with more than 12 minutes left.
Maye threw for scores to Mack Hollins (35 yards) and Rhamondre Stevenson seven) in the fourth quarter but it was all too late. Darnold, who has played for five different clubs, won his first career Super Bowl. He completed 19-38 passes for 202 yards with a touchdown.
