The Kansas City Chiefs have signed running back Jamaal Charles to a new five-year, $32.5 million deal that includes $13 million guaranteed, according to a report on ESPN.com.

Charles ranks third in the NFL with 1,137 rushing yards this season. He is averaging a league-best 6.2 yards per carry -- nearly a half-yard more than Brandon Jacobs of the New York Giants, who is second with 5.8 yards per carry.

The news comes as the Chiefs, who lead the AFC West, are preparing to play division rival San Diego on Sunday.
