Queen's used a lopsided win over York to guarantee a shot at defending their Vanier Cup title.

Justin Chapdelaine threw four touchdowns and ran in another score as the Gaels qualified for the Canadian university football playoffs Saturday with a 52-14 win over the Lions.

"We needed to win this game to get into the playoffs," said Chapdelaine. "We're happy ... we're relieved. We're excited that we get this chance again. It's a new season for us now."

The Queen's win - coupled with Toronto's 35-23 loss to No. 2 Western - guaranteed the Gaels (3-5) a playoff date against No. 8 McMaster next Saturday.

Elsewhere in the CIS it was: No. 1 Laval 68, McGill 0; No. 5 Ottawa 54, Guelph 11; No. 10 Saint Mary's 43, Mount Allison 7; Acadia 34, St. FX 0; Sherbrooke 49, Bishop's 11; and Laurier 56, Windsor 16.

Meanwhile, Manitoba visited Alberta in the late game.

At Kingston, Ont., Chapdelaine completed 31-of-40 passes for 448 yards. He spread the ball around, hitting Giovanni Aprile, Tom Howes, Greg Plumpton and Devan Sheahan for touchdowns.

Ryan Granberg rushed for 166 yards and one touchdown in the win. It was Granberg's third consecutive game with 100 yards or more rushing.

York quarterback Nick Coutu finished 13-for-29 for 137 yards, connecting on TD strikes to Alex Bugdahn and Jonelle Tolbert for the Lions (0-8).

Queen's kicker Dan Village set a new team career scoring record, finishing with 271 points. That eclipsed the old mark by six points set by Jamie Galloway, who played with Queen's from 1988 to 1992.

After he broke the record, Village received a standing ovation from the 2,123 in attendance.

"It was emotional to see the Kingston community, fans and players on their feet - it was a nice thing," said Village. "It's a special day ... but more importantly we want to make another run at this thing, that's our focus right now."

No. 1 Rouge et Or 68, Redmen 0

At Montreal, top-ranked Laval used a 52-point lead at halftime to hammer McGill.

Bruno Prud'homme was 11-for-15 for 156 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Rouge et Or (8-0).

Ryne Bondy, Connor Ogilvie and Tomas Silva each got a turn at pivot for the winless Redmen (0-8), combining for four interceptions.



No. 2 Mustangs 35, Varsity Blues 23

At London, Ont., the Mustangs overcame a first-quarter 14-0 deficit to beat the Varsity Blues.

Jerimy Hipperson ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns for Western (6-1).

Quarterback Andrew Gillis was 25-for-43 for 282 yards, one TD and one interception for Toronto (3-4).



No. 5 Gee-Gee's 54, Gryphons 11

At Ottawa, Franck Ngandui ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns as the Gee-Gee's rolled over Guelph.

Quarterbacks Brad Sinopoli and Aaron Colbon each ran in TDs of their own for Ottawa (7-1).

Chris Rossetti completed 13-for-27 passes for 227 yards, one TD and one interception for Guelph (4-4).



No. 10 Huskies 43, Mounties 7

At Halifax, the Huskies ran away in the third quarter with 28 points to beat Mount Allison.

Devon Jones ran in three touchdowns, including two in the third quarter, for Saint Mary's (4-3).

Alonzo Howell's three-yard run in the second accounted for the Mounties' (3-4) lone TD.

Axemen 34, X-Men 0

At Antigonish, N.S., Cameron Wade returned a blocked punt for a touchdown against St. FX.

Kyle Graves and Zack Clarke also scored on the run for Acadia (4-3).

Quarterbacks Reilly Penner and Jeremy Mraovic combined for five interceptions for the X-Men (1-6).



Vert et Or 49, Gaiters 11

At Lennoxville, Que., the Vert et Or exploded for 20 points in the second quarter en route to a win over Bishop's.

Quarterback Jean-Philippe Shoiry was dominant for Sherbrooke (4-4), completing 29-of-39 passes for 372 yards, five touchdowns and one interception.

Jermaine Gabriel's 112-yard punt return accounted for the Gaiters' (5-3) lone touchdown.



Golden Hawks 56, Lancers 16

At Windsor, Ont., Rashad La Touche ran in two touchdowns as Laurier whipped the Lancers.

Shane Kelly went 28-for-42 for 342 yards, one TD and three interceptions for the Golden Hawks (3-4).

Austin Kennedy was 20-for-38 for 229 yards, two touchdowns and one interception for Windsor (2-5).

Golden Bears 46, Bisons 21



At Edmonton, Matthew Jarvis had 24 carries for 205 yards and two touchdowns as Alberta clinched a playoff spot with a win over Manitoba.



The loss eliminated the Bisons form playoff competition.



Julian Marchand was 18-for-33 for 237 yards and a touchdown for Alberta (3-4).



Khaleal Williams was 16-for-28 for 274 yards and two touchdowns for Manitoba (1-6).



FRIDAY ROUNDUP

The Concordia Stingers overcame five interceptions from quarterback Terrance Morsink to upset the No. 6 Montreal Carabins 21-14 in Canadian university football Friday.



Julien Hamel picked off Morsink four times but it wasn't enough as the Stingers survived the defensive struggle to down their cross-town rivals.



Morsink was 19-of-36 passing for 206 yards and a touchdown to Liam Mahoney for Concordia (4-4). Sebastien Deschamps ran in another score from three yards out for the Stingers.



In other CIS action Friday, No. 7 Calgary beat No. 3 Regina 35-27, while No. 4 Saskatchewan hammered UBC 30-9.



At Montreal, Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze was 17-of-39 for 215 and a touchdown to Vincent Pelletier-Bouchard for the Carabins (5-3). The Montreal quarterback was also intercepted twice by Nicholas Arsenault-Hum and once by Paul Spencer.



Jonathan Beaulieu-Richard had Montreal's other interception.



No. 7 Dinos 35, No. 3 Rams 27



At Regina, Dinos quarterback Erik Glavic threw 17 for 34 for 275 yards and a touchdown to help hold off a late Rams rally.



Running back Matt Walter was spectacular for Calgary (5-2), rushing 16 times for 158 yards and a touchdown.



Marc Mueller was 32 of 49 for 413 yards and three touchdowns for Regina (5-2), which scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.







No. 4 Huskies 30, Thunderbirds 9



At Vancouver, Laurence Nixon completed 26-for-40 passes for 330 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions as the Huskies rolled over UBC.



Ben Coakwell ran in two touchdowns for Saskatchewan (6-1), while Nixon connected with Braeden George for the third TD.



Billy Greene's 44-yard TD pass to Victor Marshall was the Thunderbirds' (2-6) lone visit to the end zone.
