Canadian Interuniversity Sport will allow members of the suspended University of Waterloo football team to transfer to another school and "participate immediately."

In a release distributed Wednesday, the governing body of Canadian collegiate sport announced players would be permitted to transfer without having to sit out a year of competition, as is usually the case.

Waterloo suspended its football program in a surprise announcement Monday, after tests performed on 62 players revealed nine potential anti-doping infractions.

The CIS Eligibility Committee ruled that Waterloo players will have "the opportunity to transfer without encumbrance to another CIS institution for 2010-11, subject to all other CIS regulations."

The university supports the decision.

One of those regulations stipulates coaches from other universities are not allowed to recruit Waterloo players unless that player initiates contact.
