Larry Taylor's second go-round with the Montreal Alouettes has already come to an end.

Montreal released the kick returner and 2009 Most Outstanding Special Teams player Thursday, after he'd played just one game with Montreal this season.

Als GM Jim Popp said the coaching staff decided that Taylor would not play in Sunday's CFL Eastern final versus Toronto and that it was best to send him home.

"We won 12 games this year with other returners and they've done a nice job and they've been here all year," Popp said. "You need to make decisions. The coaching staff asked for my support to remove him from the team and I gave it.

"Larry's a great guy, but he wasn't that interested in returning to Montreal, although he may say differently."

Taylor had returned to his former team following his release from the New York Jets and played Oct. 29 versus the Argonauts, returning a punt for four yards and kick return for 16 yards.

Tim Maypray has been Montreal's main kick returner this season.

Taylor had a standout 2009 season with Montreal, including a CFL-high three touchdowns on kick returns en route to being named an East Division and CFL all-star.

He hoped to parlay his CFL success into an NFL career, but was released by the Jets in September and rejoined the Als on Oct. 25.

Popp said Taylor was reluctant to return after he was cut by the NFL club and could have been back three games earlier than he did.

It appears the coaches and some players questioned whether Taylor had his mind on winning with the Alouettes or his attempts to catch on in the NFL.

Popp said Taylor was welcome to return to the Alouettes next season if he wished.
