Laval returned to its familiar spot atop the CIS football rankings Tuesday while last week's No. 1, the Calgary Dinos, fell four spots after an opening loss to Saskatchewan.
The Rouge et Or, ranked second in the season-opening poll, moved up to No. 1 after thrashing visiting McGill 50-9. Laval, who had opened the season at No. 1 the five previous seasons, is atop the rankings for the 48th time in 52 polls dating back to the start of the 2005 campaign.
Laval (1-0) received 24 of 40 first-place votes and 439 points in the new rankings to edge the Saskatchewan Huskies (1-0), who moved up one spot to No. 2 after earning 16 first-place votes and 432 points from the Football Reporters of Canada.
Saskatchewan (1-0) opened its Canada West season on the road with a 34-13 win over Calgary (0-1).
Rounding out this week's top 10 are No. 3 Ottawa (2-0), No. 4 Saint Mary's (0-0), No. 5 Calgary (0-1); No. 6 McMaster (2-0), No. 7 Montreal (1-0), No. 8 Western (1-1), No. 9 Regina (1-0) and No. 10 Concordia (1-0).
