HL:Veterans Malveaux, Haywood among five players released by Eskimos

EDMONTON - Veterans Kelly Malveaux and Jerome Haywood were among five players released Thursday by the Edmonton Eskimos.

Also given their walking papers were defensive backs Lamar Herron and Bradley Robinson and offensive lineman Garrick Jones. All five players were Americans.

Malveaux, a 10-year CFL veteran, started 15 regular-season games last year, registering 50 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble return.

Haywood, an eight-year veteran, joined the Eskimos in September as a replacement for the injured Dario Romero. Haywood started five games, registering seven tackles and two quarterback sacks.

Herron joined the Eskimos as a rookie last year, appearing in three games and starting one. He had three tackles and a pass knockdown.

Robinson appeared in 15 games over two seasons with the Eskimos, accumulating 19 tackles and four interceptions.

Jones spent the entire 2009 season on the injured list.
