Phil Mickelson will get yet another shot at replacing Tiger Woods as the number one ranked golfer in the world this week at The Memorial.
This will be Mickelson's latest attempt at dethroning Tiger, only this time Woods will be in the field to defend the challenge.
Last week, Mickelson needed to win at Colonial to take over top spot, which seemed likely since he won there on two previous occasions. But he failed to make the cut and enabling Tiger to continue his reign as number one for a 260th week.
It has been suggested in some circles that Mickelson actually plays his best golf when his nemesis Woods is present. In the last five tournaments in which both were in the field, Mickelson has won three times, finished second and tied for 17th. In the latter event, Woods was forced to withdraw due to a neck problem.
Now, in the first seven tournaments prior to the Masters - all of which Woods skipped due to hsi personal problems - Mickelson could only come up with one top-10 finish. In the others, he struggled to even make it into the top 20.
So that begs the question, does Phil Mickelson need Tiger Woods? Give us your views and opinions in our comments section.
