Ignacio Garrido
Ignacio Garrido of Spain shot a 3-under 69 on Friday to take a one stroke lead through two rounds of the Johnnie Walker Championship.
With three birdies on the outward nine, Garrido added birdies on No. 11 and 17 for a two day total of 8-under par.
Thomas Bjorn of Denmark rediscovered his British Open form after an unhappy stint in the United States to shoot 69 as well at the PGA Centenary course in Gleneagles, which will host the 2014 Ryder Cup, to sit one off the pace.
He was joining in second place by Italy's Lorenzo Gagli, England's Kenneth Ferrie, Ireland's Peter Lawrie and first round leader Mark Foster, who all sit at 7 unde par.
Spain's Pablo Larrazabal (68) and England's James Morrison (69) were one further shot adrift.
Defending champion Edoardo Molinari of Italy posted a 2-under 70 for level par to make the weekend along with Colin Montgomerie (73), the tournament chairman and 2010 Ryder Cup captain.
Current Europe Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal picked up a two-shot penalty on No. 2 for hitting the wrong ball, making a double-bogey 7 in a second straight 74 to miss the weekend cut. Unbeknown to the double U.S. Masters champion he hit two balls out of the rough -- his own and one that was buried underneath -- to incur the penalty.
"I've never had anything happen like that before," said Olazabal.
