GOOD

Niklas Backstrom

Granted, given the state of the Oilers these days, it's a little like beating up on your kid brother, but the Minnesota Wild goaltender continued his mastery over Edmonton last Thursday, improving to a perfect 14-0 in his NHL career against the Oilers with a 4-2 win.

Derek Jeter

Given the gravity of New York baseball, it's nice to see the captain of the sport's most dynastical franchise can have some fun. After reupping with the Evil Empire in the off-season for another three years, Jeter chose some new walk-up music to celebrate on opening day, and what could be more appropriate than The Imperial March, aka Darth Vader's theme?

Rogerio Ceni

Showing a cultured right foot that was every bit as refined as that possessed by one David Joseph Beckham, the Brazilian bent a free kick into the back of the net last Sunday, handing Sao Paolo a 2-1 win over bitter rival Corinthians with his 100th career goal. Not too shabby for a goalkeeper.

BAD

Joey MacDonald

For anyone who thought playing behind a blueline featuring Nicklas Lidstrom and Brian Rafalski was easy, think again. The Red Wings third-choice goaltender gave management pause for thought over their injury-related crease crisis last Wednesday, coughing up seven goals in a 10-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Evan Longoria

Though he plays out of God's waiting room, the Tampa Bay Rays third baseman seemed to be preparing for an altogether more sinister meeting with the other side. "The only time a person would need a rifle of that magnitude is if they're fending off zombies," a gun expert told tampabay.com after hearing Longoria had an AK-47 stolen from his spring training residence last week. Still, when it comes to the living dead, it's always better to be safe than sorry.
