it's cold, but friendly

Several hundred brave fans came out in -20 celsius weather at a Saskatchewan Roughrider Rally at City Hall on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, in Regina, Sask. The Roughriders will play the Alouettes in a rematch of last years Grey Cup this weekend in Edmonton.TROY FLEECE

So this is Edmonton, or, as I like to call it: Bizarro Arizona.

First impressions? Well please don't take this personally, but it is -30 below here and I spent $60 on a cab to get from the airport to my hotel by the other airport; and the scenery overall has been flat and tundra-ish.

So I'd have to say I'm kind of on Janet's side on this one.

And I don't think too much should be read into the fact that Taylor Hall is out shopping for engagement rings right now; by dog sled.

All that aside, I did enjoy my first taste of Elk last night.

Okay. I'm done.

If you're ready for some Grey Cup football, read on:

The Big Game:

• An Edmonton Eskimo lineman and MMA fighter nicknamed "The bogeyman" is appearing in court here this morning for, among other things, trying to stuff a man into the trunk of his car against his will.

• If someone is trying to sell you a ring in Winnipeg with the score of the 1985 Grey Cup engraved on it; call the authorities.

• It's not that surprising that fans of a robust Canadian football culture are in support of the Vanier Cup being paired with the Grey Cup as it will be next year in Vancouver.

• The appeal of the Roughriders, set to music.

• This Als cheerleader says Sam "The Rifle" Etcheverry is her all-time favourite player. I see no reason to doubt the plausibility of that, though Sonny Wade's feelings are probably hurt.

From Twitter:

• We know that everyone in the CFL is here for the love of the game; but they do offer bonuses to the winners, so might as well go for it, or, as Kerry Watkins of the Alouettes tweeted: "It's time to go get this money!!"

• If you do have some extra money Andy Fantuz of the Saskatchewan Roughriders will sell you a football for about $215.
