A B.C.-based company is trying to bring hockey player Paul Henderson's most famous jersey back to Canada.

The Jim Pattison Group has bid more than $309,000 for the No. 19 jersey worn by Henderson when he scored Team Canada's deciding goal in the 1972 Summit Series with the Soviet Union.

A spokesman for the company headed by B.C. billionaire Jim Pattison says, if the bid is accepted, the jersey would become the main attraction of a Canada-wide tour.

It would then be donated to this country's sports hall of fame in Calgary.

The bid has Henderson's support - with the 67-year-old left winger saying he is excited the Pattison Group has joined the bid to buy the heavy-knit red and white sweater from a private U.S. collector.

The jersey will go to the highest bidder in an Internet auction set to close next Tuesday and earlier this month 25 bids had been received, with the highest topping out at $211,000.
