The Vernon Vipers outscored the Dauphin Kings 4-1 in the second period and cruised to an 8-1 decision to capture the RBC Cup on Sunday.

The Vipers became the first team to win consecutive Canadian junior A hockey championships since Vernon, known then as the Lakers, did so in 1990 and 1991.

Vernon took a 1-0 advantage into the second before storming out to a 4-0 lead on goals by Dylan Walchuk, Kellen Jones and Cole Ikkala.

Bryce Lamb registered the Kings' lone goal of the game at 10:01 of the period before Patrick McGillis scored again for the Vipers in the frame.

Jones finished the game with two goals for the winners. Sahir Gill and Garrett Noonan had the others.

Joe Caligiuri stopped 28 shots in Dauphin's goal. Vernon's Graeme Gordon made 23 saves.
