Todd Clever had three second-half tries as the United States beat Canada 30-22 on Saturday at the Americas Rugby Championship.
Gordon McRorie kicked 15 points for Canada while Duncan Maguire scored his first test try.
McRorie pushed Canada's lead to 15-10 at the 45-minute mark, but Clever went over in the 57th minute off a driving maul for his first of three tries in an eight-minute span.
Canada is 1-1 at the competition after beating Uruguay in its opening match. The Canadians are back home next Saturday as they play host to Brazil at Westhills Stadium in Langford, B.C.
Canada will miss World Rugby U20 Trophy
Canada failed to qualify for the World Rugby Under-20 Trophy on Saturday after falling 19-18 to the United States.
The Canadian squad needed a victory to move on to the second-tier world U-20 championship, with promotion to the elite World Rugby U-20 tournament on the line, but Ben Cima spoiled the opportunity when he scored his fourth penalty of the match in the 80th minute to put the Americans ahead for good.
The United States join hosts Zimbabwe, Fiji, Namibia, Spain, Hong Kong, Uruguay and Samoa in Harare at the April 19-May 1 tournament.
