Canadian rugby international DTH van der Merwe has signed a new two-year contract with the Glasgow Warriors of the Magners League.

The 24-year-old back joined the Warriors in 2009.

"It was quite an easy decision to make," van der Merwe told the club website. "[Head coach]Sean Lineen gave me a shot two years ago and now it's time to repay that faith."

Van der Merwe, who was born in South Africa but now calls Victoria home, has scored seven tries in 14 matches for the Warriors this season.

"He wants to stay which is important and to have an X-factor player like that makes all the difference," Lineen said. "He's a great weapon to have out on the wing. He is a good player, has a good attitude and is a quality athlete."
